I am so glad that I really prepared for this trip. Before, I was actually going to go to the zoo either in Houston or in San Antonio. Then I thought, hey I have one here and why not take advantage of it and go sooner. The name of the zoo here in Brownsville is Gladys Porter Zoo. I prepared for this visit in many ways. I first started out by going to the website http://www.gpz.org/ and browsing around. I of course looked at the days and times they were open along with how much they charged. So with that in mind, I googled coupons for the zoo and I was able to find a coupon for one children entrĂ©e free upon purchase of one adult. That would save me $6.50 so that was 100% worth the search. One major thing I am concerned about is the heat. Down here in the valley, it gets to be in the high 90’s or even the hundreds. There is honestly nothing I can really do about that unless I get to the zoo early when they open which is at 9:00 AM. So I am hoping I can get ready in enough time to make it. I am somewhat a procrastinator in certain things and this is definitely one of those times I would.
I browsed around the website to see what kind of activities they have going on especially since I will be taking my little 3 year old boy with me. I would love to take my little girl but she is only 1 and with this heat, I would feel horrible. One thing I noticed they had going on was a feeding with the giraffes. I thought this was so neat but then that is when I read, they only have it held on special events and on certain times during the weekend. This is something I was going to keep in mind for a later time to take my children to. I also like the Summer Safari but it’s for children 4 and above. You basically pay a little fee and you get to go to a zoo class for about two hours and learn about the whys in various animals. A whole bunch of other goodies come along with it, which is something else I am going to keep in mind for my children. You are also able to pay a virtual visit and see a majority of the animals they carry at the zoo. Definitely a must see.
